Salmon Reintroduction

A project done in partnership with numerous provincial and national groups.

From 2012 to 2018 ERMA supplied eggs from Exploits River salmon to reintroduce salmon to the Rennie’s and Virginia River systems in St. John’s. Eggs were shipped to St. John’s, where they were fertilized and transplanted in instream incubators within the Rennie’s River and Virginia River systems. This instream incubation approach was the first attempt of its kind in Atlantic Canada.  ERMA has also supplied salmon eggs to the Fluvarium to be utilized in the Fish Friends Program in schools across the island.

Project Partners: Atlantic Salmon Federation, Fluvarium, Salmonid Association of Eastern Newfoundland, Norris Arm Economic Development Association. Memorial University, Fisheries and Oceans Canada
