Advancing the study and sustainability of Atlantic salmon.

Over the years ERMA has partnered in various education, monitoring and research projects related to Atlantic salmon and its complex life history.

ERMA has assisted DFO in tagging and tracking adult salmon as they migrate upstream and as they return to the ocean as smolt or kelt.

Since 2014 ERMA has partnered with the Memorial University of Newfoundland. Eggs from the Exploits River were utilized in studies that resulted in three published scientific papers:

- Performance of Instream Jordan–Scotty Salmon Egg Incubators Under Different Installation and Sedimentation Conditions

- The impact of a changing winter climate on the hatch phenology of one of North America’s largest Atlantic salmon populations

- Freezing ovarian fluid does not alter how it affects fish sperm swimming performance: creating a cryptic female choice ‘spice rack’ for use in split-ejaculate experimentation
